The Osthoff Resort Ready to Host More Meetings, Retreats, Weddings and Expos with New Addition

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (September 10, 2014) – What do you do when you can’t keep up with demand? You expand, of course, which is precisely what The Osthoff Resort ( on the shores of Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin did recently. They’ve just completed an addition to the conference center wing, dubbed the Grand Libelle Ballroom, with 10,000 square feet of ballroom space and an additional 5,500 square feet of pre-function space that now allows The Osthoff to host even more meetings, retreats, weddings and expos. The additional square footage also means the resort can go after larger-scale meetings and expos that literally weren’t a fit for the resort prior to the expansion due to space constraints.

“You might say it was a good dilemma to have, that built-in high demand plus potential for more and larger meetings, that made the expansion a very sound business decision,” said Lola Roeh, the resort’s general manager. “It’s also good for the entire community, adding to the tourism base that largely defines the economy of Elkhart Lake.”

With the new addition, the resort’s total function space now totals 38,000 square feet. The Grand Libelle can accommodate groups as large as 1,500 theatre-style and 800 for banquets.

According to Roeh, meeting planners have always appreciated the resort’s many on-site amenities including restaurants and destination spa, its variety of condominium-style suites all under one roof and numbering nearly 250, and its scenic location just a short drive from Midwest business centers. The one stumbling block for those planning large meetings and expos was meeting space. “Now the pieces of the puzzle are all in place to be able to say ‘yes’ to larger gatherings,” said Roeh.

This addition to the north wing is elegant and sophisticated yet warm and welcoming in keeping with the décor aesthetic of the rest of the resort. Chandeliers hang from tray ceilings, there’s custom carpet throughout, wood doors and accents provide a sense of warmth, and the space is richly appointed with period-style furnishings. The color palette includes shades of moss green, teal, rich browns and beiges, ivory and gold, mirroring the natural hues of the resort’s lakeside setting.

Every year since 2005 the resort has undertaken at least one significant development project. It began with construction of the north wing with conference center, spa and restaurant, followed by the addition of a cooking school, lake deck for casual dining and live music, lounge in the main floor Elk Room, and expanded gardens to serve the hotel’s restaurants. The resort also recently completed a significant refurbishing of all the guest suites in the main building and south wing.

The investment and attention to detail helped land the resort a spot on Travel + Leisure magazine’s list of the “Top 500 Hotels and Resorts in the World” for 2014 as voted on by readers. The Osthoff also received a 2014 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor which recognizes businesses that consistently earn top ratings from TripAdvisor travelers. The Osthoff was voted “2014 Best Wisconsin Lakeshore Resort” by Wisconsin Meetings Magazine. In 2013 Condé Nast Traveler magazine named the resort’s Aspira Spa the #3 spa in North America. For 16 consecutive years The Osthoff has received the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Rating.
